The Legacy of 1998 Action Epic

Directed by Alan Mak and based on Ma Rongcheng's manga, the original Fengyun movie launched in 1998 as Hong Kong's iconic action blockbuster. Now after nearly three decades, rumors suggest this legendary franchise might finally complete its cinematic trilogy.

Comic Creator's Persistent Vision

According to Hong Kong manga game producer Shih Jen-yi, Ma Rongcheng has maintained an unshaken commitment to the trilogy concept. The 60-year-old Depp and 58-year-old Cheung would reprise their roles if production moves forward, fulfilling the artist's lifelong cinematic ambition.

IP Development Challenges

Current market data reveals a generational divide in audience perception. While mainland Chinese viewers primarily associate the property with the 2002 TV series starring He Ruodong, the original film remains a classic among older Hong Kong cinema enthusiasts. The 2009 sequel directed by the Pang Brothers failed to achieve similar cultural penetration.
